Description:A marching band passing through Nelson Place during Newcastle Carnival 8n the mid-1970s. Newcastle Carnival became an annual event after the octocentenary carnival celebrations of 1973. The carnival was always held on the last Bank Holiday Monday in May and included a procession through the town, charity stalls, fun fair, and many live music performances. The carnivals stopped taking place in around 2006. Photographer: Herbert Ogden, Chief Area Surveyor for the National Coal Board in North Staffordshire.
