Description:Right at the centre of this photograph, with the bandage around his head, is Private Ernest Pattison, a soldier in the 3rd North Staffordshire Regiment. He was injured in France by a piece of shrapnel and was sent home to recover. Unfortunately, whilst he was stationed at a recruitment office in Burton-on-Trent he fell ill and had to be rushed to hospital. He died on New Years Day, 1916 aged 23. He is buried in the Newcastle-under-Lyme cemetery.
