Description:Marked with an 'X' is Ernest Pattison, a private in the 3rd North Staffordshire Regiment. He joined up in 1914, was injured by a piece of shrapnel in France and was sent back to Britain to recover. Unfortunately, whilst stationed at a recruitment office in Burton-on-Trent, he fell ill and was rushed to hospital. He died on New Year's Day, 1916 aged 23. He is buried in the Newcastle-under-Lyme cemetery.
