Description:A postcard view of the Station Hotel (formerly the Railway Hotel) in Rudyard.
Over the years Rudyard with its nearby lake increased in popularity with tourists and the Station Hotel needed to expand on several occasions to cope with the extra visitors who often arrived by train at Rudyard Station, on the former North Staffordshire Railway's, Churnet Valley line, which once connected Macclesfield with Leek and Uttoxeter.
This picture shows the large extension built by Chesters Brewery of Manchester in the early 1890s. The original building dates from 1610. In later years the building has been converted into several apartments, known as Lakeland Lodge.
This postcard was franked on 31 August 1925 in Rudyard and sent to an address in Wolverhampton. It was published by the Scottish photographer William Sandeman who was based in Rudyard from around 1896 until the 1930s.
