Date:1906 - 1909 (c.)
Description:A man putts on the 7th green at Rudyard Lake Golf Course and his young caddy looks on. Rudyard Lake Golf Club was formed in 1906 and was the first of its kind in north Staffordshire. The North Staffordshire Railway had acquired the Cliffe Park Estate in 1903. The initial 8 hole course was laid out in 1905 and increased to 18 holes in 1908. The club closed in 1926. In the background, on the hill is the Golf House in what was formerly Cliffe Park Hall, built in 1811 for John Howarth. The Hall became a Youth Hostel in 1933 being leased by the London Midland Scottish Railway, successors to the North Staffordshire Railway. This is one of a series of colour-tinted postcards published by the North Staffordshire Railway and printed by Wildt and Kray, London.
