Description:A postcard view of Chestall Hall which was once part of the Marquess of Anglesey’s vast Beaudesert Estate, on the southern edge of Cannock Chase. Originally an 18th century farmhouse owned by the Earl of Uxbridge, the house was much enlarged during the 19th century by the Darby family, who were land agents to the Marquess of Anglesey.
Due to the Postal Regulations at the time, it was only possible to write a message on the photograph side of the postcard, and in this case in the white space around the edges on the left, right and below the picture. The reverse of the card was only for the address. During late 1902 the Postal Regulations changed and it became possible to write a message on the same side of the card as the address.
