Description:Born in Bolton, Lancashire in 1882, Robert Arnold was apprenticed as a shoeing smith to his blacksmith father, but joined the Staffordshire Constabulary in 1904. This portrait was taken in the early part of his police career, possibly while he was constable and detective with Burton Police, prior to his promotion to Sergeant in September 1920 when he transferred to Trentham.
