Description:A postcard photograph by J.S.Simnett of Burton upon Trent entitled 'Boys and Girls come out to play'. The building in the photograph is the School House. The children are standing by the side of the Abbots Bromley Road, Hoar Cross. The school itself was set back from the road behind the picket fence. By 1851 there was a school at Hoar Cross run by Ann Hulse. The schoolroom was enlarged in 1883 and was replaced by a new building in 1894, paid for by Mrs Meynell Ingram, with capacity for 120 children. The school closed in 1985 when pupils were transferred to the school at Newborough. The schoolroom and school house were converted into private houses in 1987.
