Description:This part view of the dome of the Saloon at Chillington Hall was taken by Country Life in 1948.

The Saloon was built on the site of the Medieval Hall and was designed by Sir John Soane in 1786-9. This photograph shows details of the later 1820s decoration to the dome. Above this, concealed in the roof void, are the timber supports of Soane’s original dome.
