Description:A row of burned-out old timber-framed thatched cottages in Coal Pit Lane, Brereton, near Rugeley (thought to be on the North side about halfway up). They belonged to the Earl of Shrewsbury, Brereton's Lord of the Manor and owner of the coal rights in the area. A sum of £9 6s 6d was claimed from Rugeley U.D.C for the services of the Fire Brigade in attendance to the fire. Note the women investigating the scene.
