Description:Joseph Mellor was proprietor of the Unicorn Hotel at 39, High Street, Stone, on the corner with Mill Street. He was born in Little Stoke in December 1859 and was the landlord the Crown Inn, Aston-by-Stone and at the Elephant & Castle, Gaol Square, Stafford before moving to the Unicorn. In 1911 was living at the Unicorn with his wife Emily Ann, daughters Lizzie and Constance, and three live-in staff.
