Date:3rd of September 1978
Description:A group of those present for the licensing of Deaconess Sheila Fenn, who was the first Minister for Perton, on 3 September 1978. Amongst those in this photograph are the Rt. Rev. Francis Cocks, Bishop of Shrewsbury; Deaconness Sheila Fenn; Rev. R. Dampier, Vicar of Coven; Rev. W. Bond, Minister of Tetenhall Wood United Reformed Church; Rev. Gaskell. Soon after construction of housing on the former Perton Airfield site started in 1972, Church of England and United Reformed Church members, Anglicans and Methodists began meeting together for services, initially in each other's homes, and later in the Upper Room, the top floor of the former Control Tower. They moved into the newly erected Community Centre. The Church at Perton was built in 1982, unusually catering for Anglican and free Church worshippers.
