Description:Consall Hall dates from around 1810 and was remodelled in the 1880s. In 1918 it was acquired by William Podmore Snr and his wife Alberta. William Snr owned a firm in the Staffordshire Potteries manufacturing and milling materials for the pottery and glass industry, particularly frits, glazes and oxides. When William Snr and Alberta died in 1958, the estate was inherited by their son, William Podmore OBE (1917-2018) who started redeveloping and expanding the gardens at Consall Hall.
William Snr had already started developing the early 19th century formal gardens, but William Jr set about expanding them to their current size of over 70 acres, disguising a former industrial landscape with dams, ponds and tree planting. He also introduced a number of follies and monuments to the landscape.
