Description:The second Peak and South Derbyshire Dry-stone Walling Association dry-stone wall competition, held at Mr R. White’s farm at Back o’ th’ Hall Farm, Flagg, Derbyshire. 50 competitors from Derbyshire and Staffordshire built 174 yards of dry-stone wall during the competition. Pictured is R. W. Arden of Topley, Buxton, aged 15, who was 5th in the under 16 competition.

Competitors in the Open Class had to build 4 ½ yards of wall, 4 feet 9 inches tall. The winner was Mr T.L. Alcock. Competitors from Staffordshire included Mr D. Bradbury, Jr and Mr W. Gibbs from Longnor.

The Peak and South Derbyshire Dry-stone Walling Association was formed in 1937 following a series of classes held by Derbyshire Agricultural Institute in the winter of 1936-37 with the aim of reviving the dying art of dry-stone walling.
