Description:The original slag tip at Shelton iron and Steel Works after reduction. In the foreground is the Trent and Mersey Canal. The Steel Works at Shelton were founded by the Earls Granville around 1830. Steel production at Shelton Bar ended in 1978 but the processing of existing steel continued in the rolling mills until the 27th April 2002 when the plant finally shut down.
