Description:The unveiling of the foundation stone of St Chad’s Church. Pictured on the left is the Chaplain-in-Chief of the RAF, Rev. F.W. Cocks, (who later became the Bishop of Shrewsbury) and on the right Padre Peacock. The Church was dedicated on 3 February 1961 by the Bishop of Lichfield, Dr A.S. Reeve. With accommodation for a congregation of around 250, the £12,000 building replaced the hutted church that had been in use since 1941. Following the closure of RAF Stafford in 2006 the church and base became part of Beacon Barracks, occupied by the Army.
