Date:29th of August 1978

Description:Diesel engine with fully loaded sand wagons on the North Staffordshire Railway line south of Denford heading to Stoke-on-Trent.

Sand was carried from Hepworth's sand quarry at Oakamoor to St Helens, Merseyside for Pilkington glass. The last 'sand train' ran down the Churnet Valley in 1988.
