Description:In 1688 the Duke of Albermarle bequeathed £6000 for the erection and maintenance of almshouses for twenty poor widows. The houses were eventually built in 1743 and are still in use in this photograph taken in 1935. They are however in a poor state of repair. In 1964 they were demolished to make way for the A34.
