Description:Showing the exterior from the south. Shortly before the First World War, Louis Knight opened a light engineering works on the site of the Old Smithy at the Green in Gayton. During the Second World War it was commandeered for war work. The women who worked there carried out a variety of tasks, including making parts for Spitfire engines. It closed at the end of the war.
