Date:1887
Description:A fire broke out in the Elizabethan House in the early hours of October 1887. The alarm was raised by a shoemaker, but it was too late to save the building. The shoemaker received 5s as a reward. Mummery's jewellery shop (on the corner of Market Square), Miss Johnson's books shop and Boots the Chemist were also destroyed. The lamp post marks Mummery's Corner. Photograph donated by Stafford Historical and Civic Society, who retain copyright ownership.
