Description:Edge irons are used to set the edge of the sole, to smooth it and and imprint a desired shape on it. This process is done by running the heated tool, under presure, along the edge of the leather sole and welt. Edge setting also has the purpose of sealing the fibers aginst water and so preserving the shape and appearance of the sole edge. From a Stafford shoe factory.
