Description:No. 45, St. John Street, Lichfield, is Grade II listed (together with the attached wall and gates). It was built around 1682 as the Grammar School Headmaster's House, with boarder's accommodation in the attic rooms and an 18th century schoolroom addition at the rear.
In 1902, it was sold by auction because a replacement school was built nearby (which became King Edward VI School). No.45 became the home of Lichfield Rural District Council (LRDC) in 1920, after they first purchased it in 1917, only for it to be temporarily taken over by the Army. The letters LRDC can be seen etched into the lower front windowpanes. After a local government reorganisation in 1974, it passed to Lichfield District Council and it now (2026) houses their Council Chamber.
