Description:The Conduit Lands Trust was founded in 1545 when Hector Beane, Master of the Guild of St. Mary, transferred most of the Guild's land to the new Trust, to safeguard it against being confiscated by the Crown. The land was therefore secured for the good of the city for ever. The income from this property was used to give Lichfield a free supply of water, to build sewers, and generally to provide for the welfare of the citizens.
