Description:A postcard view of George Street which was the main street of Tamworth.

On the right, with the sun-blinds, is Vaughan’s shop at number 37. A Mr Vaughan built this for his pawnbroking and second-hand business in 1898. Thomas Vaughan was a locksmith from Willenhall who had several pawnbroking businesses in the midlands. The terracotta clad building is possibly the work of Gibbs & Canning of Glascote who supplied terracotta products to the building of The Royal Albert Hall and The Natural History Museum in London.
