No. 2 and 3, Crabbery Street, Stafford

Description:The photographer, Dr J.E.C. Peters, left a note stating: “Front of No. 3 (centre) and rear of No. 2 (right) Crabbery Street.

On the extreme left is a part view of the front on No. 3 and centre right the large three-storey building is the back of No. 2 Crabbery Street which had a 19th century front and a 17th century rear.

At the time a major redevelopment was planned for this area. The photograph was taken in 1962 and in the foreground several buildings have already been demolished. During 1963, No. 2, No. 3 and several other buildings in Crabbery Street were demolished to make way for a large new extension to the Co-op store which fronted nearby on Gaolgate Street.
