Description:The white building on the left is the Bird in Hand public house at No. 21 Mill Street (now Earl Street) on the corner with Victoria Square. It dates from around 1800 and still remains (2026). At the time of this photograph, it was owned by John Joules Brewery of Stone.

The buildings to the right No's. 22 and 23 were R.W. Hourd & Son Ltd's offices for 'The Staffordshire Newsletter' newspaper, they also provided a bespoke printing service. Note the projecting 'RWH' sign. These buildings have since been demolished and replaced with Mill Court office suite.
