Wolseley Hall, Rugeley

Description:The photograph shows the central entrance porch on the south front of Wolseley Hall. This was added by the 7th Baronet during his and James Trubshaw's remodelling of the Hall in around 1821. The room above the entrance was the Oak room, but it is said that he provided no means of access to the room above it. This view of the front of the Hall was taken immediately before the auction of its fittings and demolition in 1966.

The Wolseley family had lived on the estate since Norman times. In the eighteenth century Wolseley Hall was rebuilt but suffered from a serious fire in the early 1950s. In 1954, the Hall was in a great state of disrepair and abandoned by the family, who took up residence in nearby Wolseley Park House. Wolseley Hall was demolished in 1966. The estate remained derelict until 1990 when the gardens were restored to become the short-lived Wolseley Garden Park. The site is no longer owned by the family and is currently (2025) home to a garden centre, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and a small housing development.
