Description:A view of the rear yard of Thorn & Co., whose ironmongers and builders merchants shop was at 37 Gaolgate Street. On the left between the bicycles and just out of shot of the camera was a pair of gates which led from Salter Street into this yard with its warehouses, workshops and a tin-plating works. In later years most of these buildings were demolished and the area was redeveloped to make way for the Salter Street service road. The exception to this is the tall building on the left which in 2025 is still standing.
