Description:One of a series of views of excavations at the Roman site at Wall which took place between 1912 and 1914. This view shows an apsidal wall and courtyard area in what was at the time thought to be a villa. Subsequent research proved the building to be a 'mansio', or hostel. The apse-shaped wall may have been the base for a shrine or statue.
