Description:Formal gardens at Basford Hurst, near Cheddleton, showing an urn and pedestal in the centre of a circular lawn.
Basford Hurst was built around 1860 for the land agent Edwin Heaton . William Henry Rider, a silk manufacturer, occupied the house between 1890 and his death in 1909. When Mrs. Rider died in 1932 the house was acquired by William Dixon Walker of Century Oils, who remained there until 1974. Basford Hurst has since been sold again and the property is now (2018) a nursing home.
