Description:St. Matthew's was built in 1842, replacing an earlier building. It was later renovated in 1888. Although in Derbyshire at the time of this painting, Chilcote was part of the largely Staffordshire parish of Clifton Campville in the Rural Deanery of Tamworth. Chilcote was transferred from Derbyshire to Leicestershire in 1897. An interior view of the nave and chancel of the 1842 church. This is one of a series of watercolours of all the churches in Lichfield Diocese in Staffordshire, painted by Miss Theodosia Hinckes and Mrs Rebecca Moore for Lichfield Cathedral between 1857 and 1861.
