Description:Pictured is a figure of the 27th Light Cavalry Sowar, from a series of figures “The Glories of the Raj”. During the British Raj Sowar was the name in Anglo-Indian usage for a horse soldier belonging to Cavalry troops of the native armies of British India. This was created by Michael Sutty, who specialised in fine bone china sculptures of military and naval figures, hero busts and was later inspired by the works of Sir William Russell Flint. The photograph is from the Michael Sutty Sales Catalogue of April 1990 which contained around 180 Military figures and Regimental items manufactured at the Festival Park Studio in Stoke on Trent.
