Description:In this view there are three public houses within one hundred yards of each other. The timber framed Fox and George, standing here empty and awaiting demolition, was later replaced by Price and Webb's grocery shop. The Sheridan is still standing, although it has undergone a few name changes, first to 'Dappers', then to the Wig and Pen, then to the Forester and Firkin, later abbreviated to The Forester. The third public house, the White Hart, was demolished to make way for government offices. The heap of coal at the edge of the road was for the boilers in the Borough Hall.
