Description:View of the interior of the chapel at Alton Towers looking towards the chancel windows. The Chapel with its tall slim tower was designed by Thomas Fradgley and Joseph Potter and completed by 1833, but the interior was remodelled by A.W.N. Pugin. Pugin completed the reredos and altar screen in 1839-40 and between 1849 and 1851 decorated the ceiling. The Chapel stood empty from 1924, and this photograph was taken shortly before the remaining fixtures and fittings were stripped in 1952. Between 1958 and 1993 it was home to the model railway. When the railway was removed the ceiling was restored in 1994. Alton Towers was the home of the Talbot family, Earls of Shrewsbury. It was built between about 1810 and 1852.
