Description:Alton Towers was the home of the Talbot family, Earls of Shrewsbury. It was built between about 1810 and 1852. The statues are Talbots, an extinct breed of dog, which are the emblem of the Earls of Shrewsbury. Reproduced by permission of English Heritage. NMR.
