Description:Gerald McCann's photographic studio on the first floor at 27 High Street, Uttoxeter. Mr G.H. Riley behind the camera. The McCann family photographic business began in 1870 when Edward McCann began taking photographic portraits at his house on High Street. By 1880 he had converted the front of his house into a tobacconists shop. His son, Alfred took over the business in 1884 and opened a new studio and shop at 27 High Street in about 1900. Alfred's son Gerald joined the business and took over on his father's death in 1943. Gerald specialised in photographing livestock and agricultural life and carried on the business until his retirement in 1966. The building was sold in 1968.
