Description:Officials and members of the Stone Licensed Victuallers Association are pictured at their annual meeting held in the Unicorn Hotel. If you recognise anyone in the photograph, please contact us. During the meeting the Licensees discussed the new rates and the need for some tax relief. It was decided to ask the Inland Revenue to send a representative to a special meeting as soon as possible, to explain the new rating valuations. Chairmen and Clerks of the two local authorities would also be invited. Presiding Mr B. J. Davies (Chairman) said everyone was really concerned about the new rating assessment, and he wondered what the County Council precept was going to be. It was rumoured that another 3 shillings in the pound would be added to the county rate. Presenting the accounts, the Treasurer Mr A. Jackson said that the association had a very healthy bank balance considering that it had only been formed three years ago. The balance was now £141 0s 0d. Officers elected were as follows:- Chairman, Mr B.J. Davies; Vice Chairman, Mr F. Jones; Secretary, Mr D. Bevington; Treasurer, Mr A. Jackson; Chairman of the Social Committee, Mr S. Cutler; Auditors, Mr G. Madison and Mr L. Gavin. The photograph and the details are an extract from an article published in the Stone Guardian on Saturday 11 February 1956.
