Description:On the extreme left, the corner of the Ancient High House is seen with scaffolding erected. On the right is the alleyway of St. Mary's Place and then Brookfield’s outfitters, next along is Rose & Co. wallpaper and paint merchants and adjacent is Mac Fisheries, a national chain of fishmongers who were at these premises from 1936 to 1978. Most of the buildings in this scene remain (2026) with the exception of Brookfield’s which was demolished in 1965 and replaced by the Bratt and Dyke department store. This later became a furniture shop and currently part of the building is occupied by a branch of McDonald’s fast food restaurant.
