Date:1966

Description:Castle Tavern located at 1 Doxey Road, on the corner of Castle Street, Stafford. The Tavern closed in 2010, and became a series of restaurants, currently (2026) known as 'Simply Bilash' Restaurant.

Castle Street on the left led to W.G. Bagnalls 'Castle Engine Works' locomotive manufactory which had recently (1962) closed at the time of this photograph taken in 1966. Their employees and families, together with those of railway workers would have been the Tavern's main clientele. Note the television aerials attached to the chimney stacks.
