Description:A watercolour by an unknown artist showing the interior of St. Peter's Church, Alton looking west towards the tower arch. It shows the church after the building of the south arcade and south aisle in 1830-1831, and after the musicians' gallery in front of the tower was removed in about 1860, but before the stained glass in memory of the Rev. Dr. Fraser was installed in the tower window in 1887. It was probably painted in the time of Rev. A. Moncrieff, vicar of Alton 1878-1888. The two figures may be Rev. Moncrieff and Mr. Charles Bill of Farley, the church warden at the time.

The church has a Norman north arcade and a 14th century tower. It was largely rebuilt in 1830-1831 by William Evans of Ellastone. The chancel and south chapel were built in 1884-5 by J.R. Naylor.
