Description:The statue of Ian Fraser 'Lemmy' Kilmister (1945-2015) by Stoke-on-Trent born sculptor Andy Edwards was unveiled on Market Place, Burslem on 9 May 2025. Lemmy was bass player and vocalist with the band Hawkwind between 1971 and 1975 and left them to form Motörhead, the band he is most famous for.

Ian Fraser Kilmister was born at Haywood Hospital, Burslem on 24 December 1945. He was the son of Rev. Sydney Davey Albert Kilmister, curate of Hartshill and an R.A.F. chaplain, and Jessie, neé Simpson, whose widowed mother lived at the Brampton, Newcastle-under-Lyme. Lemmy's father left the family shortly after his birth and his mother took him to live with her mother in Newcastle-under-Lyme. Later, they moved to Madeley. When Lemmy was aged 10 his mother married a former rugby player, George L. Wallis, and the family moved to Benllech on Anglesey. Lemmy died at his Los Angeles home aged 70 on 20 December 2015 and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills.
