Description:This photograph shows some of the buildings that stood at the rear of Wolseley Hall and on the extreme right is a part view of the west front of the hall. The picture was taken immediately before the auction of its fittings and demolition in 1966.
The Wolseley family had lived on the estate since Norman times. In the eighteenth century Wolseley Hall was rebuilt but suffered from a serious fire in the early 1950s. In 1954, the hall was in a great state of disrepair and abandoned by the family, who took up residence in nearby Wolseley Park House. Wolseley Hall was demolished in 1966. The estate remained derelict until 1990 when the gardens were restored to become the short-lived Wolseley Garden Park. The site is no longer owned by the family and is currently (2025) home to a garden centre, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and a small housing development.
