Description:This view looks along Balk Passage towards Broad Street, Stafford.

On the left at the time of the photograph is the Catholic Club. In the centre at No. 1 Broad Street is Arthur Seaborne's Bakery. He baked throughout the night to ensure the shop was freshly stocked the next morning. Previously the shop had been Hollier's Bakery. Later the shop and surrounding buildings were demolished and the site became part of the Guildhall Shopping Centre, Market Hall and overhead car park development.

In the background the roof of the Wesley Chapel can be seen. On the right where the wall is there used to be several terraced houses until the 1950s. Later this area became part of Sainsbury’s car park until the supermarket moved to larger premises nearby on Chell Road. Wilko’s, then occupied the site for several years and currently (2025) the building stands empty.
