Description:This view looks east along St. Mary's Grove towards an alleyway known as 'Averil's Entry' which is on the left just beyond the cars. On the right St. Mary’s Place leads around the edge of St Mary's churchyard towards St. Mary's Gate. From St. Mary’s Grove, 'Averil's Entry' enters Greengate Street between Greggs a chain bakery shop and Boots pharmacy and beauty store. In earlier years Averil's Chemists occupied an old timber-framed building with the upper story jetted-out over the alleyway; this stood until 1961 and was situated on the Boots site. The building on the left after the cars is now (2025) French & Byrne's Cafebar, previously known as The Grove coffee house. In the centre is the rear entrance of Chas. E. Morgan's which was an old-established Wine and Spirit Merchant's of 57, Greengate Street and currently occupied by Waterstone's book shop. The doorway has since been bricked up and the gable end rendered. The cars are an MGA sports car (1955-62) and a Ford 100E Popular De-luxe saloon (1959-63).
