Description:This view was taken on Gaolgate Street in January 1966 looking south from nearby Gaol Square. On the right at roof level a ‘Snowflake’ and a string of lights can be seen which formed part of the Christmas lights display that were hung across the street. On the extreme left is a part view of the Midland Electricity Board (MEB) showroom, next door is Aston's Furnishers which occupied No's. 25 - 28, Gaolgate Street, then Dunn & Co. Gentlemen's Outfitters and on the right is a branch of the John Collier national chain of Gentlemen's Tailoring shops. All of the buildings in this scene remain (2025) although over the years their ground floors have changed use on several occasions.
