Description:This view was taken on the Wolverhampton Road, near The Green by the entrance to the present Friary Retail Park (2025). The terrace of houses on the left were demolished in the late 1970's and replaced by a modern block of three shops with apartments above.

On the corner of White Lion Street is ‘Stafford view' housing a Gents Hairdressers and F. Hillman, Butcher's shop, next door is Timmis and Son's 'Curiosity Corner' Antique Shop. The four-storied building in the distance is Camden Place. By 1881 this was Miss Robarts Private Ladies School. In 1926 it became the home of the Y.M.C.A. When it was sold in 1950 it had been known as 'The Spinning Wheel' Commercial Hotel. At the time of this photograph it may have been an annexe to Stafford College of Art. These buildings were demolished in the late 1970s and replaced by Drakeford Court retirement apartments.
