Description:The Study is one of a continuous range of rooms added to the North Front of the Hall in 1738 and was once used as the Family Chapel. The wall panelling is hinged to form doors of hidden cupboards, A portrait of Colonel William Salesbury (1580-1660) hangs above a cabinet displaying a crimson satin embroidered cap, which is a replica of one given by King Charles I to the Colonel in gratitude for his defence of Denbigh Castle, North Wales, against overwhelming odds for six months during the Civil War, which he did not surrender until instructed to do so by the King. The replica cap is thought to have been produced by The Royal School of Needlework and this copy is still displayed under the portrait today (2025). The original cap and other relics came into the Bagot's possession when the Colonel's heiress, Jane, married Sir Walter Bagot in 1670. These have since 1967 been part of the Staffordshire County Museum collection.
