Description:This view of the General Stores on the corner of Water Street was taken from by Tenterbanks and Mill Bank.

Note the advertisements on the shop for Woodbines cigarettes with a dispensing machine below and for Senior Service cigarettes, Tizer soft drinks and Sanpic disinfectant. There is a pram and bicycle left outside of the shop by their owners, presumably inside. The roof-top TV aerials date from the time when BBC and ITV operated systems which required different aerials which were often combined.

The shop had previously been the 'Horse and Jockey' public house, it became a home to the Stafford Branch of the British Legion in 1922 which moved to premises in Eastgate Street about 1946. Towards centre right the old Baptist Church has become a warehouse. Most of these buildings were demolished around 1977-78.
