Description:This view looks along Salter Street towards the junction with Malt Mill Lane on the right. At the time of this photograph the building on the extreme left was the Stafford and Stone Co-operative Society Ltd. Just across the road on the right there is a glimpse of the canopy of Ravenscroft’s furniture shop, this was to become Courts furniture shop and in later years the building was converted into apartments. Next door on the first floor is S. Edensor, Gents Hairdresser, who was shortly to move to Tipping Street. Below is George Horne & Son, Auctioneer. On the right the lighting shop may have been Kathleen Dee Lighting. The car is Wolseley saloon, possibly dating from just before World War Two, with a Leicestershire registration.
