Description:Pictured is the rear view of 8, Broad Street, Stafford seen from between 6 & 7, Queen Street. It had been a butchers with slaughter-house facilities for many years. Stafford Corporation's gasometer can be seen in the background. In 1932, Butcher, Alfred Johnson, was accused of operating without a licence although it had a registration plate attached to the premises that may have dated to 1886 (the case was dismissed). He had occupied the premises for about ten years and owned it for three years. The previous owner was named Pooler. Mr Johnson sold it to Butcher, Eric Gosling in 1946. Mr Gosling stated in a planning appeal in 1965 that: "the council wanted his property", presumably as part of the area demolition and redevelopment which happened soon afterwards.
